Earth Day 2012

It's Earth Day.  Grow something.  Recycle something.  Do something.  This is the only planet we have, let's respect it!

REMEMBER TO RECYCLE!
Encourage your town to put recycle bins everywhere!

RIDE A BIKE!
For short trips around town, consider riding a bike.  You'll not only get some exercise, you'll also save money on gas, and you'll be helping keep the air cleaner!

GROW LOTS OF NATIVE STUFF IN YOUR YARD!

BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag)!
There's no reason to keep using those horrible plastic bags!

TURN OFF THE LIGHTS WHEN YOU LEAVE A ROOM!

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FARMERS' MARKETS!

ENCOURAGE YOUR MUNICIPALITY TO GO GREEN!

PLANT AN HERB GARDEN

EVERYONE SHOULD SPEAK FOR THE TREES!

I am small-time when it comes to being eco-friendly (I try).  To really learn how to reduce everything, visit this website (it's not any kind of advertising website; it's just about living waste-free).  She should be an inspiration to us all!:  http://zerowastehome.blogspot.com/

Space Shuttle Discovery's Final Voyage

NASA's space shuttle fleet began setting records with its first launch on April 12, 1981, and continued to set high marks of achievement and endurance through 30 years of missions. Starting with Columbia and continuing with Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour, the spacecraft has carried people into orbit repeatedly, launched, recovered and repaired satellites, conducted cutting-edge research and built the largest structure in space, the International Space Station. The final space shuttle mission, STS-135, ended July 21, 2011, when Atlantis rolled to a stop at its home port, NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

I am sad to see the shuttle missions come to an end.  It has been an exciting part of my life for 30 years. I will miss it!

Photo Above: Space Shuttle Discovery, mounted atop a NASA 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, makes its way past Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on today in Arlington, VA.  (Photo by NASA/Bill Ingalls.)  I really, really, really wish I had taken this photograph!!!!

This is my photograph.  It was taken on August 28, 2009, at 11:59 p.m. when Discovery was blasting off from the Kennedy Space Center.

Pinecrest Gardens

This is a beautiful botanical garden in Pinecrest (it was  formally the original Parrot Jungle).  There are shady pathways, beautiful flowers, lots of ponds with fish and turtles, and just a pretty place to walk around.  There are also a couple places for kids to play - like a water area and a nice playground area.  There was also a petting zoo, but I didn't visit that area (I don't care for petting zoos).  It's a fantastic place.

I loved the turtle pond.  LOTS of turtles!

This little guy was trying to climb up on a big rock.
He didn't make it, but he sure tried!

He fell back in the water and off he swam to another rock.

Lots of cool spider webs.
