Most of my posts are about pleasant things -- with the occasional rant about things that perturb me!

Memorial Day

Most people just know it as a day off work.  But, Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.  It originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union soldiers who died in the Civil War.  By the 20th Century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars.

Pitt Bull Ban

This is why pitt bulls are banned in a lot of counties (such as mine).  I don't necessarily agree with a ban on any breed of dog.  A responsible dog owner does not allow his dog to get out and attack either another dog or humans.

My neighbor's pitt bull gets under the fence; he is a force to be reckoned with. They know it and they have made minimal effort to correct it.  They refuse to watch the dog when he is outside.  Three nights ago, their pitt bull got out (he very easily slips under their fence) and attacked me and my defenseless 14-year-old dog.  My dog was on a leash and no where near their yard.  The attack was without provocation of any kind and my dog was unable to defend herself against this brute.  Hearing my screams, the owners came outside, but had no control whatsoever over their untrained dog.  Only by throwing things at him could they get him back in their yard.

Maybe I do agree with bans; but, not on dogs - on irresponsible humans!  My dog was lucky to escape - she is injured and horrified, but, fortunately, it wasn't worse.

My Sweeties!

Delray Affair

The Delray Affair is a huge art festival every April in Delray Beach, Florida.  They close down the main drag through the city and there are hundreds of people selling their masterpieces.  There are a lot of food vendors, and entertainment for everyone.  It's a very nice affair.

This is just a sampling of some of the art that I found interesting.

This kid had it made!

Artwork on gourds!

There were a lot of vendors selling dog clothing.
Personally, I don't think dogs need to wear clothes!

Seriously?!

This was some very unique and beautiful art.  The artist cut pieces out of China.  She then took the cut-out piece and made jewelry out of it.  I just found it a very cool idea.

THIS WAS DELICIOUS!

Some kids drumming on trash cans. They were good!

THE CORN WAS SO GOOD!

No shortage of delicious-looking food!

NICE HAIR!

This was a fantastic animal rescue organization at the art show.  They had a lot of cats, kittens and doggies for adoption.  The dogs were all so sweet and just looking for loving homes.  There's no reason to ever buy a purebred dog -- these dogs all need good homes and would be wonderful additions to any family!

These doggies were brought to the art show by their humans.  I never understood why you would drag around a little dog on a hot day where there are a million people. Some dogs rode around in fancy strollers, and others were just dragged around on leashes.  Dogs should be in dog parks, not where they can be stepped on; most appeared to be frightened by the large crowd and all the commotion.

This little guy was being reprimanded for trying to get out of his stroller.  I am sure he was VERY embarrassed being in a stroller!

This poor little guy; his human was pushing 2 little humans in a double-stroller and just dragging him around.  I am sure he would have rather been home lounging around in the air conditioning!

"Where's Timmy?"

This poor pup -- his owner stopped at one of the little "doggie boutiques" to buy him a hat.  He had a look on his face like, "Oh, please don't make me wear a dumb hat."

Owner wasn't listening -- he got the dumb hat!

He looks THRILLED, doesn't he??

This is what belongs in a baby stroller -- a baby!
