The USS Arizona Memorial, located at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii, marks the final resting place of 1,102 of the 1,177 sailors who lost their lives on the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, by Japanese Naval Forces. The attack on Pearl Harbor was the action that led to the United States’ involvement in World War II. The memorial was built over the remains of the sunken battleship USS Arizona without touching it. The sunken remains of the battleship were declared a National Historic Landmark on May 5, 1989.
