MICANOPY, FLORIDA

I am in the Ocala, Florida, area for a few days and today I visited a wonderful (very small) town called Micanopy.  Micanopy is a unique city located just south of Gainesville. The streets are lined with ancient oaks and Spanish moss.   There are private homes and storefronts that time seems to have forgotten.  Most of the buildings are on the National Historic Register; Micanopy is the oldest inland settlement in Florida. As early as 1539, there is record of a village located at the site of Micanopy where explorer Hernando De Soto found the Timucuan Indians living. Micanopy is a very quiet and friendly town (everybody here seems to know everybody else).

These few buildings depict the entire downtown!
It's a very small town!

 The historic buildings were amazing!
I stopped into this little shop for lunch (Coffee N Cream).  I had
a fantastic bowl of soup and the people were so friendly.

This is a 4-star B&B in the town.

 Cute old Florida-styled homes

This is a very old cemetery.  I saw graves from the 1800's.
