This morning, Operation Migration ended yet another successful journey (their 14th) of guiding juvenile whooping cranes from Wisconsin to Florida. They dropped off seven, 7-month-old whooping cranes at the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, where they will spend the winter, then fly back to Wisconsin (or maybe they decide they like living in Florida and stay here!). Next year, the cranes will migrate on their own. OM is dedicated to the preservation of this amazing creature, which is on the verge of extinction. If you are ever lucky enough to see one in the wild, it's a great day!
In the past several years, I have driven up to see the annual flyover when they arrive in Florida. But, this year I didn't make it. :-( [very sad face]
