There is no other place I have found that is like Key West. It's fun, funky, laid-back and just a beautiful place to visit. The drive down to Key West is equally beautiful. You are surrounded by ocean on both sides all the way down. It's truly spectacular!
The awesome 7-Mile-Bridge.
Henry Flagler's old railroad
What a view!
A mother osprey feeding her offspring (his mouth is open!)
Stopping at Big Pine Key to see the Key Deer Refuge (didn't see any of the tiny endangered animals because they weren't dumb enough to be out in the heat - can't say the same for myself!)
The first place to see is the Historic Key West Cemetery. The graves are so interesting. Some are extremely old and the cemetery is overgrown in spots, but it has a nice charm to it and there is a lot of history here.
One of my favorites, "I told you I was sick."
Chickens are all over Key West, the cemetery is no exception!
Gen. Abe Lincoln Sawyer was a 40" midget whose final wish was to be buried in a full-sized-man's tomb, which he was. He is surrounded by his family.
Mr. Kemp was the first person to discover a previously undiscovered sea turtle. That turtle is now known as a Kemp's Ridley.
Interesting sign placement!
Iguanas are ALL OVER Key West! He is chillin' out in the sunshine!
Another iguana.
Florida state bird; a mockingbird.
This is the southernmost point of the United States. Cuba is 90 miles away.
Typical!
Parasailer (Oh, doesn't that look NOT fun?!?)
A fighter jet from NAS, Key West.
A typical Key West styled home.
A street performer and his chickens!
Two dogs chillin' out by the Atlantic!
Another pampered doggie!
Beautiful place on the water to watch the sunset.
SERIOUSLY?!? There were all these alligator heads for sale in a gift shop. An alligator was an endangered animal not too many years ago. They have made a comeback, but I do not understand why they are slaughtered for their heads (or any other part). Does anybody know what ENDANGERED means? This is one of the many things in life that makes no sense to me, and just makes my head explode!
You can own one of these creepy things for $17.99.
End of the rainbow.
US1 begins and ends here in Key West!
Waiting for the sun to set at the southermost point of the U.S.
Key West has the MOST gorgeous sunsets!
And, no trip to Key West is complete with going to Sloppy Joe's. I am a swinger - I had a tall glass of water!
Awesome pool at my hotel!
Yeah, the good life!
Key West style!
The drive home - one way in, one way out: U.S.1.
One of the many beautiful islands that make up the Florida Keys.
More of Flagler's masterpiece.
