I started watching this pair of sandhill cranes and their two chicks about a month or so ago. At that time, the chicks were really small. I don't know what happened to the second chick, but this is the chick today. He / she has gotten very big. The mother and father crane always have their eye on me when I am near their offspring; they never stray far away.
The baby was resting in the grass. His legs are VERY long now.
As the parent (not sure if the mother or father) sees me talking to her child, she quickly comes over to see what I am up to. (I mean no harm.)
She doesn't bother me, but she lets me know to stay far enough away from the chick.
I have enjoyed watching this pair of sandhill cranes and their offspring. Its nice to see birds like this in the wild! I don't know where the other baby is.
