Space Shuttle Challenger was NASA's second Space Shuttle to go into service (Columbia was the first).  Challenger's maiden flight was on April 4, 1983, and it completed nine missions before its tenth and last mission on January 28, 1986. 

26 years ago today at 11:39 a.m., Space Shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after taking off from the Kennedy Space Center.

This is a day that will live in my mind forever.
