Most of my posts are about pleasant things -- with the occasional rant about things that perturb me!

Veterans' Day, 2015
In the early 70s, I bought this metal POW bracelet for $2.50. I put it on my wrist and never took it off. Engraved upon it was the name, Lt Charles Stackhouse. On April 25, 1967, Lt Stackhouse (US Navy) was flying over North Vietnam when he was shot down; he parachuted from his A4C and was captured by the North Vietnamese - he was 27. Lt Stackhouse was a stranger to me - he was only a name on a bracelet - but, that didn’t stop me from wondering every day where he was. I vowed to wear this bracelet until he returned, and I often wondered if I would be wearing it forever (I hoped not). When the Vietnam War ended, every day the newspaper would list the names of POWs who had survived their captivity, those who did not, and those who were MIA. On Jan 31, 1973, Lt Cmdr Charles Stackhouse’s name appeared on the “ALIVE” list. On Mar 4, 1973, I got up at 4am and watched on TV as Lt Cmdr Stackhouse stepped off the plane that brought him home; he had been freed after 6 years in captivity. Whatever my feelings were about that war no longer existed; all I remember was feeling overcome with emotion at watching “my” POW walking down the steps of that plane to freedom. It was a good day, and the day that I finally took off this bracelet. Few material things matter to me, but this bracelet is one possession that is priceless.
Today, we honor ALL those who have selflessly served in the United States Military.

More baby iguanas . . .
This is # 1. He is not afraid of me anymore, and doesn't mind the clicking camera. If I get more than an arm's-length, he will move, but not run.
The dates of these photos are October 5 thru October 27, 2015. The newest (most recent) photos are first.
This is # 2. He is fat and the biggest. He is in the same exact spot in my yard every day at the same time. His throat piece (don't know what that is called) is very blue. He will let me get close - but not too close.
And, this little rascal is # 2. He is timid and the smallest. He tries desperately to hide from me (he thinks I can't see him here). And, he will run FAST if I get too close to him.
Love the little tongue out!
Shedding his skin!

Baby Iguanas (all 3!)
A nest of iguanas hatched in my yard a couple months ago. I know there are at least 3 out there, because I have seen all 3 together; I have never seen an adult iguana in my yard, so I don't know how a nest came to be here. Usually, I see 1 or 2 of the babies. But, today, I saw all 3 at the same time. They are SO cute, even tho they are destructive and non-native. I love having them out there. Two of them are very shy and run from me, but, one is curious and actually comes towards me when I see him.
Baby # 2. He was sunning himself, but when he saw me, he ran to his buddy. I try to be respectful and not get too close, but they hear me even when I am creeping from far away.

He ran to safety with his buddy. The one on top is curious about me.
He is sticking out his tongue at me! SO RUDE!
SO cute! Baby # 1

And, this is # 3. He wants no part of me or my camera!
From 9/30/2015. I love his colors!

Supermoon Lunar Eclipse
Once again, the doomsayers were wrong (so far, they’ve never been right). The blood moon, harvest moon, super moon lunar eclipse did NOT bring about the end of the world - instead, it was a gorgeous, heavenly spectacle (even if it was cloudy). This hasn't occurred since 1982, and we won’t see it again until 2033. Maybe the next one will be the end of the world – but, for now, I feel fine!

Turtle Rescue
I risked my life crossing 6 lanes of traffic to pull off a daring touch-n-go turtle rescue - this little guy was in the middle of the street! I get this reptilian terror in my car and took him to a beautiful lake. When I took him out of the car, all he wanted to do was FIGHT me!
He didn't waste ANY time diving into the lake!
He's trying to fight me!!

Baby Iguana
So today, one of my wild baby iguanas was sitting on a fern leaf in my yard. I don't know how it was supporting his body weight (he's a bit of a fatty!). He pretended not to notice me, and I pretended to not notice him.
He finally caught my eye, but I think he is used to me. He doesn't run.

Baby Iguanas!
While working out in my yard with my plants one morning, I felt some eyes on my back. I looked up and saw a baby iguana staring at me. At first, I thought it was a common anole, but upon closer examination of my photograph, I saw it was a baby iguana (also common).
Over the past several weeks, it became obvious that a nest of baby iguanas had hatched in my back yard. I say a nest because at one time, I saw 3 of them all lined up (pic below) - and they are all the same size. They stay together, but are very shy. One is a little more brazen now and doesn't run from me - but the other 2 do.
Iguanas are an invasive species, and that much I don't like. But, I have to say I love these little guys in my back yard and want them to stay. My plants have taken a beating with them chewing them, but I like them better than the plants, so it's all good. I think they are adorable (let's see if I'm singing the same tune when they get HUGE!)

The first 2 pics are the same iguana - he was curious about me.
I didn't realize (at first) there was more than one!
